Let's look at the four stages of human culture and the four categories of industry.

The Four Stages of Human Culture

These occasionally show up on the government exam in a multiple choice question whereby you must determine which stage is being described. Moreover, it is interesting to see how human culture has changed over time in terms of economic activities and population size especially during the course of the 20th Century and now into the 21st Century.

The Four Categories of Industry

These are particularly important for analyzing the economic profile of a place be it a city, province, country, or region of the world. Moreover, they establish a base for identifying the economic differences between developed nations and the developing world.



Assignment Work

1) Download , print out, and read the "Four Stages of Human Culture" file from above.

For the Hunting & Gathering and Agrarian Stages, give an historical example of peoples and / or places that were once in that particular stage as well as a contemporary example of peoples and / or places that are still predominantly in that stage.

For the Industrial Stage, give examples of countries today that fall in that category.

For the Post-Industrial Stage, give examples of cities that would be classified as such.

This information goes in "The Nature of Geography" section of your notebook.

2) Download "The Four Categories of Industry" word processing document file and complete the assignment. This also goes in "The Nature of Geography" section of your notebook. E-mail your completed work to your instructor as an attached word processing document file. This assignment is worth 10 marks.
