Reforestation (i.e. planting trees) of watersheds will help to slow the movement of water through the hydrologic cycle giving more time for water to penetrate into the soil (i.e. infiltration of water) (B).

The amount of evaporation (D) will be lessened as more water will be sheltered from the sun's rays due to the new vegetative cover. The rate of basin discharge (C) and daily run-off (A) will also be reduced as water flow will be slowed by the presence of a vegetative cover.
